Chapter 10: The Red Ghost
[Translation By Divinity]
Lu Cheng was taken aback, unable to fathom why Lu Yuanshan would suddenly ask such a question.
He thought for a moment, then shook his head. “No, he didn’t leave any will. He passed away without a word.”
Lu Cheng’s father, Lu Yuting, had hanged himself one night five years ago. Less than six months after his father’s death, his mother also passed away, leaving Lu Cheng alone.
Lu Cheng vividly remembered that his parents never seemed happy when they were alive, always melancholic and withdrawn. His father, in particular, often suffered from nightmares. He seemed to be constantly tormented by some kind of spiritual pain, a torment that persisted even until his death.
Lu Yuanshan fell silent again, chain-smoking one cigarette after another. The expression in his eyes grew more complex – a mix of pain, fear, worry, despair, and indifference, making it difficult to decipher.
From Lu Yuanshan’s intricate gaze, Lu Cheng sensed that he was harboring some unspeakable secret, something buried deep within his heart.
He couldn’t understand why Lu Yuanshan would suddenly ask about his father’s will. The truth was, his father hadn’t left any will before his death, departing without a word.
By now, the sky had darkened considerably, and it was getting late.
Lu Cheng stood up to bid farewell to Lu Yuanshan and Chen Ye. “Uncle, sister-in-law, I have to go now. Take care of yourselves. If there’s any news about Shiran, please remember to call me.”
Lu Yuanshan silently walked Lu Cheng to the door.
Just as Lu Cheng was about to step out, he heard Lu Yuanshan murmur behind him, “This day has finally come.”
Lu Cheng’s heart skipped a beat. He turned to look at Lu Yuanshan, whose face was pale, his eyes revealing a trace of fear and helplessness.
Lu Cheng knew that Lu Yuanshan’s words must hold some vital information, but he didn’t press further. He simply nodded and turned, walking into the darkness of the night.
The night wind was still biting, sending shivers down his spine.
As Lu Cheng walked home, Lu Yuanshan’s words and his complex expression replayed in his mind. He sensed an invisible force closing in, as if the gears of fate had begun to turn. And he was merely a helpless cog, caught in this terrifying vortex.
Back home, Lu Cheng still couldn’t find peace.
He sat by the window, gazing at the night sky, his heart filled with questions and unease. The weeping woman, the blood-soaked mask, Lu Shiran’s disappearance, his father’s suicide—all these seemed to point toward some unknown truth. And this truth might be even more terrifying and cruel than he could imagine.
Just then, he heard a faint cry from outside the window, identical to the sound he had heard the night Lu Shiran disappeared.
Lu Cheng’s heart sank. He stood up and looked out the window but couldn’t see anything.
The crying continued, as if coming from the depths of hell, sending chills down his spine.
Lu Cheng took a deep breath, grabbed his flashlight, and left the room.
He had to find the source of the crying. No matter what truth lay behind it, he had to uncover it.
He walked into the dark courtyard, the flashlight beam dancing among the eerie shadows of the trees, as if beckoned by countless ghosts.
The crying grew closer, and Lu Cheng felt an icy aura pressing in on him from all sides.
He reached the corner of the corridor, the sound emanating from there.
His hand trembled slightly as he shone the flashlight into the corner, but saw nothing.
Suddenly, a gust of cold wind swept over him, chilling him to the bone.
The crying stopped abruptly, and an eerie silence descended.
Lu Cheng’s heart pounded in his chest. He felt as if some invisible force was watching him, making it difficult to even breathe.
Just then, a blurry figure appeared in the corner.
The figure was dressed in red, her long hair falling over her face, her head bowed, motionless.
Lu Cheng’s flashlight beam shone on her, but he couldn’t make out her face.
He felt an intense fear, as if the figure before him had come from another world.
“Who are you?” Lu Cheng asked, his voice trembling.
The figure didn’t answer, simply standing there silently, like a ghost.
Lu Cheng’s heart nearly leaped out of his chest. He knew that this woman in red was the key to all these terrifying events.
He had to find the truth, no matter what horrors lay hidden beneath.
He mustered his courage and walked towards the woman in red.
Just as he was about to reach her, the figure suddenly vanished into thin air, as if she had never existed.
Lu Cheng stood frozen in place, cold sweat running down his face.
