Chapter 51

The Five Peaks and Eight Halls

Lu Chengfeng stood at the door, taking a deep breath and concealing all his emotions, a smile appearing on his face.

Reaching the door, he laughed heartily and said, “My humble abode welcomes a distinguished guest. Please forgive me, Senior Brother, for any lack of hospitality.”

Inside the hall, a man in a loose brown robe, with a thin and dark complexion, was sitting and sipping tea. He appeared to be in his thirties.

Hearing the laughter, he put down his teacup, stood up, and looked towards the door. He saw Lu Chengfeng dressed in a white robe, his long hair flowing freely, exuding a natural air of unrestrained elegance.

“Junior Brother is truly a carefree spirit. Such a leisurely demeanor is truly enviable, unlike us who are destined for toil, busy all day long without a moment’s rest.”

Lu Chengfeng smiled and waved his hand. “Senior Brother, you’re too modest. I’m just lacking in ability and experience, not yet capable of shouldering great responsibilities, so the sect lets me roam free.”

“Those who serve in the Law Enforcement Hall, entrusted with important duties by the sect, are all masters of martial arts and possess great capabilities. Senior Brother, you’re simply indispensable.”

“Hahaha!” Li Qian, the visitor, couldn’t help but laugh. Everyone enjoys hearing compliments, especially from a talented Junior Brother like this.

After exchanging pleasantries, the two took their seats, and Lu Chengfeng called for the maidservant to bring fresh tea. Then he asked, “I wonder what brings Senior Brother here today?”

Li Qian pondered for a moment before saying, “I’m here today on behalf of my master, who wishes to invite Junior Brother Lu for a meeting.”

“Oh?” Lu Chengfeng’s expression flickered. “I didn’t expect the Grand Elder to seek me out. May I ask, Senior Brother, what is the matter?”

Li Qian took a sip of tea but didn’t reveal anything. “My master’s actions are not for us to speculate. However, Junior Brother, you’ve achieved quite a lot during this beast tide. I’ve even heard about your rapid progress in swordsmanship.”

“My master has been paying attention to your news for a while now. It seems he has taken a liking to your talent!”

“I was only able to achieve some success thanks to the help of Senior Brother Tan and the others. I didn’t expect even the Grand Elder to have heard of it.” Lu Chengfeng forced a wry smile. “The Grand Elder presides over the Law Enforcement Hall and is occupied with countless matters. I didn’t think I would be worthy of his attention.”

“Junior Brother, there’s no need for modesty,” Li Qian shook his head. “I heard you unleashed two feet of sword Qi not long ago. At your age, my swordsmanship was far inferior to yours.”

“If you have no other pressing matters, Junior Brother, would you be willing to come with me?”

Lu Chengfeng replied respectfully, “Since it’s the Grand Elder’s order, I naturally dare not disobey. However, it’s not proper to meet an elder without being properly dressed. Please allow me a moment to tidy myself up, Senior Brother.”

Li Qian said, “That’s a minor matter. My master doesn’t mind such things. But it’s good that you have respect for elders. Go ahead and prepare; I’ll wait for you here.”

“Thank you for your understanding, Senior Brother. I’ll be back soon.” Lu Chengfeng called for the maidservant and asked her to attend to the guest well, then went to the back courtyard.

When he entered the room, Luo Suyi asked with some confusion, “Husband, what’s going on? Why did both Senior Brother Zhou Tong and someone from the Law Enforcement Hall come looking for you today?”

Lu Chengfeng smiled and said, “It’s nothing major. I just achieved quite a bit during the beast tide and caught the attention of some elders in the sect. The Grand Elder of the Law Enforcement Hall sent someone to say he wants to see me.”

“Please help me find a suitable outfit. Once I’m dressed, I’ll head to the Law Enforcement Hall.”

Hearing this, Luo Suyi finally relaxed and a smile appeared on her face. “That’s good. With your talent, it’s only a matter of time before you stand out in the sect.”

As she spoke, she selected several outfits from the wardrobe, finally settling on a blue brocade robe and draping a black bamboo embroidered outer robe over it.

Lu Chengfeng, already handsome with his jade-like features and tall stature, looked even more dashing and elegant in the robe, resembling a young master from a noble family.

“My husband is truly handsome,” Luo Suyi muttered, gazing at his reflection in the bronze mirror as she tied his hair into a jade crown.

Lu Chengfeng was amused by her infatuated state. Once she finished, he pulled her into his arms and gave her a long, lingering kiss until she was breathless.

“Are you satisfied now?”

Luo Suyi’s eyes were hazy, unable to resist her husband’s advances. She snapped back to reality and hurriedly struggled to get up. “You should go now. Don’t keep them waiting.”

Lu Chengfeng finally released her. As he was about to leave, he casually said, “If I’m not back by tonight, have Li Mofeng go to Black Crane Peak.”

Luo Suyi was taken aback. “Why?”

Lu Chengfeng explained, “If the Grand Elder has any instructions, I, as his disciple, can’t refuse. But Wanqing left the mountain over a month ago, and I don’t know how she’s doing.”

“I was planning to go down the mountain to check on her, but if the Grand Elder has other tasks for me, it would cause a delay.”

“Even if I’m being overly cautious, it’s better to have a plan in case I need someone from Black Crane Peak to help me get out of it.”

Luo Suyi didn’t suspect anything and smiled. “You’re quite cunning, but you’re right. Junior Sister Wanqing has been gone for so long. I wonder how she’s doing.”

“Her mother has a low status in the clan, and she went back to be married off. I hope nothing bad happens to her.”

Lu Chengfeng embraced her and said, “Don’t worry, I’ll take care of everything. I’ll go check on her.”

After comforting Luo Suyi, Lu Chengfeng left. But as he turned around, his expression became serious.

Apart from the 108 Outer Peaks, the core of the Cloud Firmament Sword Sect was the Five Inner Peaks and Eight Halls.

Below the Sect Master, the five Inner Peak Masters and the eight Hall Masters were the true power holders in the sect.

The five Peak Masters were also known as the First Seats, while the eight Hall Masters were distinguished from other elders and called Grand Elders.

Among the eight halls, the Dueling Hall, the Law Enforcement Hall, and the Skill Transmission Hall were the most prestigious. In terms of authority and status, they were no less important than the First Seats of the five peaks.

For such an important figure to suddenly request a meeting with him, a True Disciple who had only recently entered the Inner Peaks, there had to be a reason.

Although Lu Chengfeng didn’t think the Grand Elder would harm him, he couldn’t help but be cautious. If something unexpected happened, and Black Crane Peak found out, they would definitely take action.

If they didn’t even care about their own True Disciple getting into trouble, their reputation in the sect would be completely ruined.

All these thoughts flashed through his mind as Lu Chengfeng stepped out the door.

Li Qian had been waiting for a while, showing no signs of impatience. Seeing Lu Chengfeng emerge, he immediately praised, “Truly a handsome young man. Even I admire Junior Brother’s elegance, let alone those young ladies.”

Lu Chengfeng exchanged a few pleasantries with him and then followed him towards the Law Enforcement Hall.
